Captaris support for RightFax
8.7 ends on Nov. 1, 2007
If you have business critical applications that depend on
RightFax 8.7, upgrade now. Support for RightFax 8.7 ends on
November 1, 2007. Several upgrade scenarios are possible such
as:
Install RightFax 9.3 on a RightFax 8.7 Server, an "in-place"
upgrade
(server must meet RightFax 9.3 server requirements).
Install RightFax 9.3 on a new server computer and migrate the
data
from a RightFax 8.7 Server.
Upgrade multiple RightFax 8.7 Servers to RightFax 9.3 and share
a
SQL database.
Note that the RightFax 9.3 upgrade is extremely complex,
requiring skills in SQL, Active Directory and the new RightFax
database structure. Instant InfoSystems has already successfully
installed and migrated RightFax 8.7 and 9.0 systems for a number of
our customers.

RightFax 9.3 Feature Highlights
RightFax 9.3 has significant enhancements in enterprise performance,
scalability and user administration, with faster document delivery
speeds, better support for disaster recovery scenarios and an
updated Web access client.
RightFax
Shared Services Module Multiple RightFax application servers can now
share a single RightFax database and
services. This offers
significant improvements in user administration, load-balancing,
data redundancy and support for
disaster recovery scenarios.
RightFax
Database Enhancements RightFax 9.3 offers performance enhancements
to inbound document processing that
will benefit companies seeing
increased document traffic within their organization. This release
uses Microsoft SQL Server
to manage a new receive queue, adding even
more reliability, better performance and load-balancing for received
faxes.
RightFax Web
Access (RWA) Numerous updates have been made to improve usability
for both users and administrators
including simplified log-in and
delegate support, online tutorials and documentation, streamlined
error-handling, an
Administrators Tab and client-side fax printing
and saving.
Captaris
Synchronization Module An XML-based tool synchronizes company data
to RightFax 9.3 from Microsoft Active
Directory or the Lightweight
Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). The new Microsoft Active Directory
integration does not
require an update to the company’s existing
schema.
Server Side
Application (SSA) Conversion Enhancements The new Captaris Isolated
Conversion Engine improves the
speed and efficiency by which
documents are converted to faxes on the RightFax Server from native
applications such as
Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and HTML.
Windows and
Database Certifications RightFax 9.3 is certified on Microsoft
Windows 2000 Standard and Advanced
Server; Windows Server 2003
Standard and Enterprise Edition. RightFax FaxUtil is certified as
“Designed for Windows
XP.” Database support includes Microsoft SQL
Server 2000 and 2005 Standard and Enterprise Edition, as well as SQL
Server Express 2005. RightFax 9.3 is also certified with SQL Server
2000.
Installation
Enhancements A new prerequisites CD launches a wizard that conducts
preinstallation checks and updates
to the server or client computer.
In addition, RightFax 9.3 also includes a separate client
installation program that allows
the client components to be
installed and deployed separately from the server package.
Enhancements
for Eicon Fax Boards RightFax 9.3 now includes support for the Eicon
fax board features: call blocking,
inbound routing and enhanced use
of CSID. These features are available with Eicon Diva Server fax
boards.

ZANTAZ Brings Centralized Content Archiving and
Electronic Discovery to the Microsoft 2007 Infrastructure
ZANTAZ recently announced the launch of ZANTAZ EAS 6. With its
uniquely scalable architecture and with true enterprise-wide single
instance storage, EAS 6 drives down overall storage volumes by up to
90 percent while ensuring access to email messages, files, and
SharePoint documents for regulatory compliance, electronic
discovery, and knowledge management.
The solution provides transparent and cost-effective access for end
users, business officers, and legal professionals using the
applications they know best, including Microsoft’s new family of
products such as Microsoft Outlook 2007, Windows Vista, the 2007
Microsoft Office System, Microsoft Outlook Web Access 2007, and
Microsoft Windows Mobile handheld devices. Furthermore, ZANTAZ EAS 6
reduces the time and risk of an organization’s migration from older
Microsoft Exchange servers to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 by
enabling administrators to offload data to the ZANTAZ EAS archive
prior to the upgrade.
ZANTAZ EAS 6 includes the following enhancements:
Full integration with the
Singlecast classification technology – purchased by ZANTAZ in
December of 2006 – to improve
email monitoring and reduce the risk
of corporate liability
Support for the Microsoft Exchange
2007 managed folders feature to provide organizations with an
intuitive and interactive
mechanism to classify messages and set
retention periods that are transparently and automatically enforced
within the
archive
Support for the powerful new
Microsoft Windows Desktop Search feature, enabling users to find and
retrieve both live and
archived content with a single full text
query
Support for mobile users through
Microsoft Outlook Web Access 2007 and handheld devices running
Microsoft Windows
Mobile or Palm OS
Transparent integration with
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, including support
for new features such as
offline library access and enhanced records
management
Ability to perform electronic
discovery using both desktop and browser-based clients to meet the
needs of geographically
dispersed and multiple-party litigation
teams.

Captaris Ships New Version of Its
Workflow Product
Captaris has announced the
availability of Captaris Workflow 6.5. Captaris Workflow 6.5 is
based on Microsoft .NET Framework. It integrates with Microsoft
Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows Workflow Foundation to
provide customers with vertical solutions for business process
automation and management problems.
Key features and
benefits include:
Powerful new
support for Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007. The Workflow Task List
web part now operates within
SharePoint 2007. SharePoint event
notification has been enhanced to allow a designer to easily
associate a workflow
model to a SharePoint event.
Simulation
Module supports Microsoft Windows Workflow Foundation. The Captaris
Workflow Simulation Module
empowers business process analysts to
perform “what-if” scenarios to improve and optimize processes and
estimate
Return on Investment (ROI). Workflow 6.5 includes a
simulation workflow model design canvas based on Windows
Workflow
Foundation.
Integration
with Microsoft Office InfoPath and Forms Server 2007. This new
capability makes it easier to deploy business
process solutions that
require electronic forms, an important requirement for businesses
looking to reduce paperwork.
Enhanced Key
Performance Indicators (KPIs). The task management capability in
Captaris Workflow has become even
more powerful. Users can now
specify user defined KPIs for their tasks, and view, filter and sort
their lists based on the
KPI values.
Enhanced
support for Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006. The Captaris Workflow
developer can use this integration point to
leverage business rule
policies that have been defined within BizTalk Server 2006 using the
Business Rules Composer.
Support for
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express. This will simplify solution
evaluations, proof-of-concept projects, and
other small deployments.
As the deployment grows in scale, the workflows can be upgraded to
run on a full SQL Server
2005.

ZANTAZ EAS
De-emphasis of the EAS
Web Client
The EAS Web Client has served as a browser based "archive
viewer" interface since EAS 1.0 (before mail client
integration was available). As of EAS 6, the Web Client is
de-emphasized. This means that it is not maintained but it
is still supported. As a de-emphasized feature there will be
no further development effort (fixes or enhancements) to
this component. In the next release of EAS the intention is
to remove the EAS Web Client.
EAS Web Access (EWA) is the recommended web-based archive
browser to replace the Web Client. EWA is a separately
licensed product that offers a feature rich and truly web
enabled EAS archive browser. The reason EWA is a licensed
add-on is due to the expanding rich feature set and
development complexity required to produce a truly
web-enabled archive browser.
Statement on EAS 4.2 End of Life
As planned, EAS 4.2 will reach end-of-life following the
release of EAS 6. Support for EAS release 4.2 will cease as
of
October 1, 2007.
