RightFax
8.7 Support extended to September 1, 2008
Based on customer feedback,
Captaris has extended support for RightFax 8.7 to Sept. 1,
2008, from the original end-of-life date of Nov. 14, 2007.
Customers indicated they needed more time to make the
transition and wanted to avoid any significant software
changes in the last quarter of 2007. All development work at
Captaris is focused on the RightFax 9.3 platform. As a
result there will not be new features, service packs, hot
fixes or new fax board support for RightFax 8.7. If you need
a feature that is already available in RightFax 9.3, we
recommend you to plan your upgrade.
We encourage all RightFax 8.7 users to take advantage of
this extension time and upgrade to the RightFax 9.3 as soon
as possible. For more information, please contact IIS at

Cantata’s Brooktrout
SR140™ Software-only Fax over IP platform receives 2007
INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award
Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC) has named the
Brooktrout® SR140™ software-only fax-over-IP (FoIP)
platform as a recipient of a 2007 INTERNET TELEPHONY
Excellence Award presented by INTERNET TELEPHONY
magazine.
The Brooktrout SR140 supports real-time IP fax,
providing companies with the ability to integrate fax
servers and fax document management solutions with their
VoIP network. The Brooktrout SR140 also provides the
benefits of a software-only solution including easier
installation and upgrades with no hardware to maintain,
and freedom from issues with form factors, server
expansion slots, etc.
The Brooktrout SR140 is suitable for a variety of fax
server applications such as document management,
business process automation, and compliance with
regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA. Cantata
has worked closely with multiple IP-PBX and VoIP gateway
vendors including Cisco, Avaya, Alcatel-Lucent, and
Quintum to ensure interoperability.
“The INTERNET TELEPHONY
Excellence Award is reflective of the impressive market
traction and demand the SR140 has achieved with
enterprises and service providers around the globe,”
said Peter Vescuso, vice president and general manager,
enterprise business unit, Cantata Technology. “VoIP
drives FoIP. With the increasingly rapid adoption of
VoIP the movement of fax communication to IP
environments continues unabated, and the SR140 is
benefiting from and fueling that growth.”
“Taking risks to advance VoIP technology and provide
real solutions has earned Cantata recognition from the
editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY and an INTERNET TELEPHONY
Excellence Award. The Brooktrout SR140 has excelled in
delivering solutions and its customers are extremely
pleased and have offered their testaments of support,”
said Greg Galitzine, editorial director of INTERNET
TELEPHONY.

The Benefits
of Migrating Fax Communications to Converged IP Networks
Enterprise networks are
evolving to support voice, video, and data applications on a
single network infrastructure at an increasing pace. According
to research firm Gartner, 91% of all enterprise telephone sales
are expected to be IP-capable by 2009.
This paper describes in detail the specific cost and
productivity benefits of implementing an IP fax server. In
addition, it also reviews how fax servers can assist companies
in their efforts around business process automation, document
management and meeting regulatory and compliance standards.

RightFax
With the extension of
support for RightFax 8.7, an important part of administering
an 8.7 server is maintenance of the flat-file database. A
common issue to watch for is the size of any fax data file
in the RightFax\Database directory approaching 2 GB, which
is the maximum size allowed. Ensure that proper fax aging is
in place on the Group level so faxes are purged from the
database after the allotted timeframe for storage. Another
common cause of database issues is a third-party software
application accessing the database files while in use.
Exclude RightFax from Real-Time anti-virus scanning,
automated backups of the RightFax directory, etc.
