RightFax 8.0 from Captaris assures secure document delivery with new SecureDocs Module
New version also enhances Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes and Domino integrations

KIRKLAND, Wash. – August 27 , 2001 – Captaris, Inc. (Nasdaq: CAPA), a leading provider of unified communications and mobile business solutions, today released RightFax 8.0, the newest version of the world's best-selling enterprise fax and e-document delivery software. RightFax 8.0 introduces a new SecureDocs module that allows users to send digitally encrypted and certified delivery documents. In addition, there are enhancements for simplification of administration and for user convenience with both Microsoft Exchange® and Lotus Notes® and Domino®.

"We are excited to offer enterprises solutions that improve the flow of critical business information," said David P. Anastasi, president and chief executive officer of Captaris. "The new capabilities and enhancements to our RightFax product demonstrate our dedication to continually improving every component of our integrated, modular communications solution."

RightFax SecureDocs

RightFax SecureDocs provides cost-effective, secure delivery of sensitive business documents via the Internet. Confidential documents created from desktop applications or business applications such as ERP can now be transmitted to customers as a secure file with the encryption capabilities of SecureDocs. These digitally encrypted documents require a password to access them, so they cannot be read if intercepted on the network.

SecureDocs offers the additional capacity to track the status of sent electronic documents. The certified delivery feature of SecureDocs verifies receipt of the document and the time it was accessed by the recipient. This can be particularly useful for businesses sending legal information or time-sensitive financial documents such as invoices.

Microsoft Windows 2000 Certification and Exchange 2000 Support

RightFax 8.0 is the first fax server software to be certified on Microsoft Windows® 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Certification assures reliability, continuity in the user interface, and ease of installation and updating as defined by Microsoft's set standards. RightFax 8.0 also supports the newly released Windows and Office XP® platforms as well as Microsoft Exchange 2000.

"Captaris provides a valuable solution for e-document delivery, and their dedication to reliability is demonstrated with their certification of RightFax on both the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server," said Rosa Garcia, general manager of the Partner Programs Group at Microsoft.

RightFax 8.0 enables system administrators to manage RightFax user profiles, adds, moves and changes within Microsoft Active Directory™. Using Microsoft Active Directory simplifies account and profile management for administrators, strengthens security and extends the interoperability of RightFax.

Streamlined Administration with Lotus Notes

RightFax has been designated by Lotus to be a preferred fax offering. Now, RightFax 8.0 installation within a Lotus Domino environment is streamlined, as installation is entirely self-contained and written in native Notes LotusScript.

Administrators installing RightFax on the desktop are not required to make modifications to the Notes mail template in order for users to take advantage of advanced fax forms and functions. Users can modify their own preferences and options, further reducing the burden on administrator tasks.

Lotus Notes users now have the ability to view the real-time status of faxes directly from their Notes interface, eliminating the need to run another application to monitor sent documents.

Other RightFax 8.0 Enhancements

The new web delivery option in RightFax 8.0 saves storage space on a company's email server and allows users to view faxed documents using only a Web browser instead of loading additional software on their desktop. With RightFax web delivery, fax images are kept on the RightFax server.

Other RightFax 8.0 enhancements include:

  • A new AutoReply capability that eliminates the need for recipients to manually send a fax or email confirmation of receipt.
  • Expanded "permissions" assignment that gives users more control during their absence over what they allow coworkers to do.
  • A fail-over feature for production faxing that sends a fax via email if the original fax transmission fails.
